French Super Cup to take place in Tunisia

Stade 7 Novembre in Radès (StadiumVibe.com)

After weeks of speculation, the French Super Cup will be held in the city of Radés in Tunisia. The match is scheduled to be played on July 31st at the Stade 7 Novembre.

This move to Africa was announced by both the Ligue de Football Professionel(LPF) as well as the French Football Federation in an effort to make it logistically possible for players to travel less after the World Cup takes place in South Africa.

The 2009 edition of this event was the first one played on foreign soil as the French took their official season opener to Montreal, Canada. There Ligue 1 champ Bordeaux defeated Coupe de France winner Guingamp 2-0.

Local group interested in bringing French Super Cup to Miami

Posted by Juan Arango

Miami has been looking for an event of international importance at the club level in order to spark up once again the importance of Miami as an important city in the overall landscape in this market. That dream is closer than ever as a local group will bid for this event´s 2011 edition.

South Florida resident and French ex-pat, Franck Bondrille is leading the charge to bring the event that marks the beginning of the football season in his native country.

"There are other countries bidding for the French Super Cup, but they are excited about the possibility of having the event in Miami," says Bondrille.

Silver Production, promotion group based out of South Florida is looking to bid for the 2011 edition of the French Super Cup to take place down here in Miami. Silver Production is currently working with stars such as Jaeson, Diam's, Zazie, Elli Medeiros, and Yannick Noah. They also work with the logistical and production aspects of television internationally.

Last year´s edition was played in Montreal. This matchup saw Bordeaux defeat second-division Cinderella side Guingamp. Ligue 1 and other authorities linked with the game in the European nation are looking to promote their domestic league on an international level. This year´s event will take place in either Algeria or Morocco as French footballing authorities would like to take advantage of the residual effect of the World Cup taking place in that continent.

The French Super Cup is the equivalent of the Spanish Supercup or the Community Shield in England as the winner of Ligue 1 and the winner of the Coupe De France face off.
