Okay, I'm at home jamming to the new Rick Ross f. John Legend song, "Magnificent" while I'm writing this. I'm definitely feeling the energy, BIG UP to the 3-0-5, that song is FYAH!!!. Good news this week, Miami FC, the only pro soccer/football team in town will be in operation for the upcoming USL season so I got to clear off some debt so I can go to some games and support my hometown team. Anyway, let's get to the Mad About Fútbol Team Of The Week. The TOW played matches and/or made headlines during the calendar week of March 16 - 22.

Club Libertad (PAR)

The nation of Paraguay is playing some fantastic football right now. The national team is playing the best ball in South America as they lead the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying standings and their defending club champion is impressing in the Copa Libertadores. The TOW, Club Libertad certainly had luck on their side this past week.

On Wednesday, El Gumarelo traveled to Argentina and defeated San Lorenzo 1-0 in a Group 8 match in the Copa Libertadores. The Paraguayan side were gifted the points when San Lorenzo's Gaston Aguirre put the ball in his own net in the 53rd minute to give Libertad the victory. The win gave Libertad a perfect 12 points in Group 8 and the inside track to the #1 seed for the knockout stage. Its important to get the #1 seed because since the 1- 16 seedings for the knockout stage began in 2005, only once did the #1 seed not make the semis. That was in 2006 when #1 seed Velez Sarsfield of Argentina lost in the quarters to Chivas Guadalajara of Mexico.

Libertad's good fortune continued in their domestic league with a 3-1 home win over Guarani. Libertad took the lead when Guarani's Federico Acuna scored an own goal in the 13th minute for the 1-0 lead, fortunately Gumarelo had their own good players to score 2 more goals and seal the win and finish the week on a positive note.

Nothing impresses more than winning on two different fronts and that's what Libertad did. Therefore, Mad About Fútbol Team Of The Week is Club Libertad of Paraguay.
