Brazilian defender, Danilo, publicly admitted he spat and racially offended comrade Manoel (Atletico Paranaense) during the match they disputed the round of 8 of the Copa do Brazil.
Danilo held a press conference after the match in which he said “You do not spit on a man’s face, and you do not offend a person the way I did”.


However, the public apology was not enough for Manoel. After the match the defender along with a lawyer that represented Atletico Paranaense showed up in police station of Sao Paulo and denounced Danilo of a racial Insult. According to the STJD (Superior court of Athletic Justice) he could face a 22 day suspension, plus a one-three year jail time sentence for “xenophobic charges”.

So what did really Danilo say to Manoel that cause such problem? The word “macaco” or Portuguese for monkey. “It is an expression that I use, I did not think about it. I could have used any word. I know it was a strong word, but at no time I did mean to use a racist remark” said Danilo.

Hopefully his actions will receive the proper punishment; this is the second racial remark in South America this week. Racial issues are not something new in Brazil; the black and white communities have always had problems, with whites criticizing the black community.

Palmeiras defender Danilo could face jail time

Brazilian side Palmeiras shows wide variety in its designs in this year's kit. The styles vary showing the past and present of the two-time Copa Libertadores champions. Their main jersey exemplifies tradtion with its green and white combination. It also has its typical polo collar. This jersey was made using the same design that MLS club Colorado Rapids and South Americans Fluminense and River Plate also used.


The away kit does show innovations, but at the same time show tribute to the the club's illustrious and proud past. The original Palmeiras jersey had all of the colors of the Italian flag. The red left sleeve and the green right side sandwich the white side "torso". In order for Adidas to make this jersey, they used the design for the Spanish national team kit that is currently being used in South Africa.

The goalkeeper outfits are decent, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Overall, the Palmeiras kit is one of a kind, It is quite a nice buy and as of right now one of the more elegant ones in South America.

Villarreal's Edmilson did not seem too happy at the Submarine in the role of a bench player.

On Wednesday his displeasure was known as he signed a contract with Brazilian side Palmeiras. The two-time Copa Libertadores champions made the former World Cup winner their biggest signing for the 50th edition of South America's biggest club tournament so far.

The former Barcelona man returns to Brazil and has some ambitious plans for the remainder of his career. "I know I am not a 20-year-old anymore. My plan is to win a Copa Libertadores and a Brazilian national title- two titles I haven't won yet. I wold also like to return to the Brazilian national team," said Edmilson in a communicae released on Wednesday.

Palmeiras is now the team that obtained the most important reinforcements in the transfer market for the upcoming year so far as the club's ambitions are very high for 2009. In addition to Edmilson, they also signed Brazilian scoring sensation Keirrison from Coritiba. The young poacher was voted Revelation of the Year and was the Brasileirão's leading scorer with 21 goals.

Edmilson, 32, will undergo his physical exams on Friday and will start training no later than next week as there is little reat for the weary. Palmeiras will begin their defense of the Paulista title and they will begin their Copa Libertadores participation against Real Potosí.
