Week 11 of the 2009 Argentine Clausura has passed and the title contenders are separating themselves from the mid table squads. The big match this weekend featured a Top 3 matchup between 1st place Velez & 3rd place Colon. El Fortín traveled to Santa Fe and beat Colón 4-2 on the strength of two goals from Hernán R. López. Velez's Uruguayan forward moved to the top of the goalscoring table with 8 goals on the season tying him with Lanus' Jose Sand. The victory kept Velez in 1st place and unbeaten in the '09 Clausura.
The other teams in the Top 5 battled to tough 1-0 wins. 2nd place Lanús beat Godoy Cruz on the road, 4th place Huracán beat Tigre on the road, and River Plate bounced back from their midweek Copa Libertadores failure to beat Gimnasia Jujuy at home.
Diego Simeone's 1st match in charge at San Lorenzo ended in a 1-1 draw at home against Racing. Ex-Inter Milan & Real Madrid midfielder Santiago Solari looked to have wrapped the 3 points with his goal in the 81st minute to give El Cholo a good start to his San Lorenzo coaching career. However, Racing's Matías Martínez scored in the 95th minute to give La Academia a share of the points and spoil Simeone's debut as coach of El Ciclón.
