International Factoids: Brazil

Posted by Juan Arango 4.28.2009

Brazil is without a doubt the greatest footballing nation in the world. The names that are synonymous with the Scratch do Oro is a soccer fan's dream. Pelé, Zico, Garrincha, Rivelino, Jairzinho, Carlos Alberto, Falcão, Vava, Didi, Tostão, Romário, Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Bebeto, Dirceu, Roberto Dinamite,Mario Zagallo, (oh, Jesus, I´m drawin a blank) Branco, Dunga. There is also history to be made this year as Ronaldinho could crack the top ten in caps by the end of the calendar year. He is six caps away from surpassing current Canarinha coach Dunga on the all-time list.

The resume that this national team has is second to none. Five World Cups, seven Copa Americas, and three Confederations Cups just for starters. There are also the titles that have been won at the U-20 and U-17 levels. The only ¨blemish¨is the Olympic gold medal that had eluded them.

In Brazil football is more than life and the ultimate expression of that way of life is their national team.
