Ladies & Gentlemen, do we have a Team Of The Week for you all. I guarantee you have no idea what team has won the honor. Remember that the Mad About Fútbol Team Of The Week made headlines and/or played matches during the calendar week of May 4 - May 10. The winner is:
EN AVANT DE GUINGAMP (FRA)
On Saturday, the Ligue 2 side pulled off a historic result by defeating Ligue 1 Rennes in the 2009 Coupe de France final. Brazilian striker Eduardo scored twice in the 2nd half to win Guingamp's 1st ever trophy by a score of 2-1. The significance of the result is that Guingamp became only the 2nd non-Ligue 1 team to win the Coupe de France. The last non-Ligue 1 team to win the Coupe de France was Le Havre 50 years ago. Guingamp had to battle from the 7th round of the tournament (a stage with 162 teams from every division of France) to win it. Improbable odds for a Ligue 2 team but Guingamp came through. For their historic run to the Coupe De France title and a place in next year's Europa League, En Avant de Guingamp is the Mad About Fútbol Team Of The Week.
2nd place = Associazione Calcio Fiorentina (ITA)
I Viola tightened their grip on 4th place and the last Champions League spot with a big 2-0 road win against Catania. The result was important as their main rival for 4th place Genoa drew with Atalanta. Fiorentina's win also moved them to within 3 points of 3rd place Juventus. Juve drew 1-1 against AC Milan. The Firenze side has won 3 straight and 6 of their last 7 and look primed for another Champions League appearance.
3rd place = Club de Futbol Indios de Ciudad Juarez (MEX)
The club founded in 2005 and more commonly known as Los Indios beat Chivas Guadalajara 3-1 on Sunday to advance to La Liguilla of the 2009 Mexican Clausura tournament. The match was essentially an elimination game as Uruguayan forward Héctor Gimenez scored twice in the game's last 2 minutes to give Indios a place in the quarterfinals against Toluca. Los Indios are riding a 6-game unbeaten streak into La Liguilla.
