Erwin "Platini" Sánchez looks to build on their historic 6-1 victory against Argentina with this latest callup. UEFA Cup winner Marcelo Martins, from Shakhtar Donetsk, will lead the attack for the Bolivians when they face Venezuela at home and then travel to Santiago to face Chile. Although in ninth place, Bolivia are still mathematically alive and two positive results could put them back in the race for the final two CONMEBOL World Cup spots.
The biggest news of the callup was the absence of Bolivian all-time scorer Joaquín Botero who decided to exclude himself from the national team due to personal reasons. Sánchez also brings in seven players from abroad as well as U-17 Gilbert Álvarez.
