Internacional of Porto Alegre continued their impressive start to the 2009 Brasileirão with a 2-1 home win against newly promoted Avaí. O Colorado Gaucho got the 3 points without Andres D'Alessandro, Nilmar, & Taison. Alecsandro scored the game winner in the 60th minute to keep Internacional perfect on the season and in 1st place.

Flamengo's match against Atlético Paranaense featured the return of O Imperador, Adriano. He didn't disappoint as he headed in the game winner in the 46th minute in the Rio side's 2-1 victory at the Maracanã. Brazil's most popular club now sits in 6th place in the standings.

São Paulo won their 1st game of the Brasileirão with their 3-0 win against Cruzeiro at the Morumbi. 2 first-half goals by Washington & Borges sealed the win for the defending champions. The result is a bit of revenge after Cruzeiro won 2-1 in the 1st leg of their quarterfinal tie earlier in the week.

Santos beat Corinthians 3-1 in a battle of Paulista rival at the Vila Belmiro. Paulo Henrique scored twice early in the 1st half. Pele's beloved club has scored at least 3 goals in its 3 matches as Peixe moved into 3rd place and are the highest scoring team in the tournament.

Vitória surprising spot in 2nd place remains firm after their 1-0 home win against Grêmio. Leandro Domingues dramatic 92nd minute Golazo snatched the 3 points from jaws of a draw and gave the Bahia side its 3rd win of the season.
