It is past the halfway point of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying and the region's best teams are locking up their places in South Africa 2010. However, there could be a surprise or two especially after the most recent matches.
Costa Rica moved to the top of the group with a dominant 3-1 home win over the U.S. 2 goals in the 1st 13 minutes in Estadio Saprissa and a clueless U.S. side helped Los Ticos to the win. Costa Rica followed up the big victory with a thrilling 3-2 win on the road versus Trinidad & Tobago. Celso Borges scored the game winner in the 68th minute to spoil Russell Latapy's debut as head man of The Soca Warriors.
Mexico, the long time dominant team in CONCACAF, is in a real fight to qualify after taking 3 points in 2 matches. El Tri lost 2-1 to El Salvador in San Salvador with Eliseo Quintanilla sinking the Mexicans by converting a PK in the 86th minute. However, Javier Aguirre's men bounced back at the Estadio Azteca with a tough 2-1 win over Trinidad & Tobago. Oscar Rojas' long distance Golazo in the 48th minute gave El Tri the win and kept them in contention for an automatic spot.
