According to Caracol, former Colombian international René Higuita was rushed to the hospital late Thursday night after complaining of severe headaches. The former Atlético Nacional goalkeeper was rushed to St. Vincente de Paul Hospital in the city of Medellín.
Higuita, 42, underwent a battery of neurological tests to find the cause of the headaches according to the Colombian radio network. He is currently at the hospital in stable condition and will remain there for further observation.

Higuita retired in 2008 after a career that spanned over two decades. He is considered by the IFFHS as the ninth greatest goalkeeper of the 20th century. Along with his controversy off the pitch, Higuita was a pioneer on it. Many looked at him as a player that forever changed the goalkeeper position. He turned the game into a show with his unusual antics as well as his high-risk dribbling of the ball outside the box. He was part of the reason why FIFA implemented the rule after the 1990 World Cup that a goalkeeper could not handle a backpass with his hands anymore.
Higuita scored 57 goals during his career and was capped by Los Cafeteros 68 times.
