It had been over 12 years since Anthony D'Avila last scored a goal in Colombian football. His goal against Pereira on February 2, 1997 was thought by many to be the last one of his career at least in his native Colombia. With seconds remaining between América and Santa Fe, the former Colombian international did what came instinctively during his career. The ball ended up inside the box, and América's big "acquisition" this semester redirected a Léider Preciado header into the net for the equalizer. Santa Fe opened the scoring in the 55th minute courtesy of Julio Gutierrez who pushed in his seventh goal of the campaign into a wide-open net to take the lead. D'Avila, 45, would score the type of goal that transported the crowd at the Estadio Pascual Guerrero back to the glory years of Los Escarlatas. The goal would be the 176th goal of his career in Colombian football and the 260th of his entire career. The bad news was that the point they salvaged from that 1-1 draw helps them very little as they are winless so far in the tournament and winless in their last four matches at home. Santa Fe in the meantime are unbeaten on the road in their last three and are unbeaten in their last five overall. Los Cardenales have not been able to beat América in Cali since 1998.
Nacional extended their unbeaten streak to 13 after splitting points with leaders Atlético Huila. Colombian international Jairo Palomino opened the scoring for the Verdolagas while the visitors equalized courtesy of Hernán Córdoba. The point helped Los Bambuqueros pad their lead over Independiente Medellín as they fell to Pereira 1-0. El Poderoso fell victim to one of the best defenses in the tournament so far no having conceded a goal in 405 minutes.
High-flying Junior continued to amaze with their offensive display. If there was any doubt as to who the most dominant goalscorer currently is in Colombia, Teófilo Gutierrez obliterated any doubts. His hat-trick along with Giovanny Hernandez brace led El Tiburón to a 5-2 drubbing of Boyacá Chicó and continued the visitors' futility in Barranquilla.
