Miami FC, what to do?, what to do? As a Miami native, the lack of support and attention that Miami FC gets is disheartening. I am a supporter of all Miami teams because they are my hometown teams. Thick or thin, Miami is my hometown and all their teams deserve my support.
Anyway, Miami FC has been struggling all season to generate a strong buzz about the team in Miami-Dade County and the reason is because they aren't reaching out to the entire community. The hierarchy of Miami FC are suffering from a debilitating syndrome that is crippling their operations. Its called MiamiDadeCountyItis. MDCI, for short, is an affliction characterized by an inexplicable desire to only communicate & mingle with other people in the same ethnic and socioeconomic group. Another symptom is the lack of desire to venture out of one's community outside of a 10 mile radius.
For Miami FC to become relevant as a legitimate sports entity, they have to find a cure for MDCI by getting out of their South Miami/Coral Gables comfort zone and hit areas of the county they have ignored or are too scared to go to. By the way, hitting up South Beach is NOT the answer. Homestead now has a massive Mexican influence that would be a great boost to Miami FC's following. That area has been ignored to the point that the vast majority of people living there don't know the team exists.
Areas in Northern Miami-Dade County like Hialeah, Miami Lakes, North Miami, North Miami Beach, and the areas along I-95 and Biscayne Boulevard are teeming with people from soccer loving nations like Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Honduras, Costa Rica, Haiti, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago. I live in that general vicinity and not once have I seen a poster or any kind of advertising for Miami FC and they wonder why they can't get more than 100 people to the games.
To be continued with Part II.
