The German Bundesliga matched other leagues in their Matchday 4 schedule with a massive marquee matchup. This time it was champions Wolfsburg versus the giants of Germany, Bayern Munich. What could have been a tight, exciting affair turned into a blowout in favor of Bayern.

Bayern won its 1st game of the season on the strength of 2 goals of just acquired Dutchman Arjen Robben. The ex-Real Madrid speedster came on as 2nd half sub to impress in his debut and give Bayern a much needed 3 points against their biggest rival for the Bundesliga title. Wolfsburg has now lost 2 straight matches giving up 7 goals in those games.

Hamburg's offensive explosion continued with their 3-1 home win Cologne. Peruvian striker José Paolo Guerrero scored 2 goals to increase his season total to 4 goals in 4 games in leading Hamburg to its 3rd straight win. Hamburg has scored 11 goals during the streak to move to the top of the Bundesliga table.

Bayer Leverkusen kept pace with Hamburg with their 2-1 home win against Bochum. Bayer's midfielder Manuel Friedrich scored an own goal in the 32nd minute but recovered with a goal of his own in the 41st minute. Stefan Kießling secured the 3 points for Leverkusen with his goal in the 68th minute. The goal was Kießling's 4th mark of the season tying him with Hamburg's José Paolo Guerrero for tops in the Bundesliga goal scoring charts.
