Could It Have Come At A Worse Time?

Posted by Juan Arango 9.04.2009

Saturday is going to be a soccer fan's dream. Over 70 World Cup matches to be played all over the planet and some very interesting scenarios that could play themselves out.

In the evening, there will be confrontations that will tantalize the palette of any soccer fan in this region of the world. CONMEBOL, the toughest region in the world, will have some compelling matchups leading up to the clash of all clashes. CONCACAF will have their own as Mexico and Costa Rica will be the marquee event at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa. At the same time there will be another game in the middle of it all- Miami FC will close out the portion of their home calendar.

I guess you can understand where I am heading on this one. The planning couldn't have been worse both by club and league to make this match at this time. So whoever pulls out the "I don't know" or "I can't do a thing about it" really has to take a look at themselves. FIFA came out with these schedules months ago so there should be no reason to either be caught by surprise as to these matches.

This is one of the big problems with the game here in Miami. There is no way, absolutely no way, that South American fans, Central American fans, US soccer fans are going to miss their respective national teams play for a Miami FC match. I really hope that I am not coming off as a "latino-snob". I have really come to grow fond of Miami FC and I truly have wanted to see this team be successful.

Coaches, both on the pitch and in the luxury suites have to put the team in a position to win. By not making an appeal to the higher-ups in Tampa to change the kickoff time shows the lack of planning on Traffic's part. I wonder if the Traffic people in Brazil are going to turn off the TV and go to USL Live to check out Miami FC- Austin in the middle of Argentina-Brazil. It is just going to be a shame as this home finale of sorts had all the potential of being a special moment.

Too bad most of Miami's soccer fans will not know as their sights will be set elsewhere. And this time, there is basically no ammo to challenge that mindset.
