ONE aFUSIONado's OPINION:
" I have had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Diego Serna Lopera for over 12 years. He has always been the consummate professional, yet is full of fire and passion which is why he is our beloved #17, still a fan favorite, and an asset to any team. He has always been dedicated to soccer in South Florida, and will continue to do so for many years, in a multitude of capacities.
Diego greatly appreciated the fan support and it means the world to him, that people wore his jersies from the FUSION days, to the present with the latest team colors.
MIAMI FC let the fans down by not replenishing the squad after trades and injuries. The inconsistent line up, and lack of immediate response, to the glaring holes on the field were the problem. Diego was great in the beginning as the WHOLE TEAM was different, and GREAT in the beginning too.
If there was a replacement for the missing midfield, he would have had the luxury to stay up top waiting for service. Even PELE himself couldn't score with MIAMI FC!!!
You need a calculator to see how many goals have been allowed since, and obviously his leadership is greatly missed.
All athletes are human and he is flawed like any person, however I prefer to remember him for his great warmth for the fans, and their love in return, especially after scoring a spectacular goal or a dynamic assist, chanting DI - E - GO, DI - E - GO, DI - E- GO!!!
A warm thank you to all the ULTRAS FANS, and any others whom ever cheered his name."
Best Regards,
