Late Tuesday night news began to spread in the English press regarding the possibility of former national team coach Glenn Hoddle's flight to Nigeria to become the coach of the Super Eagles.
According to the Daily Mail, Hoddle would look at this job as "short term" as he currently is running a youth academy in Jerez, Spain.
Meanwhile 234Next of Nigeria are reporting that Hoddle will be the next coach of the national team and he will be tying some loose ends on the pending short-term contract. Accompanying him is agent John Shittu.
Hoddle is part of a shortlist that also includes another former England manager, Sven-Göran Eriksson. Apparently Hoddle is the top candidate to land the Nigeria job as the selection committee want a person that has been on the world's biggest stage as both player and manager.
The federation is also adamant about having the incoming coach work with domestic assistants as well as
Hoddle was an integral part of the 1986 side that eventually lost to the Diego Maradona-led Argentina side. As manager he led the 1998 England side to the second round of the World Cup before falling to the Albiceleste in shootouts.
Hoddle would be taking over a vacant coaching spot as Shaibu Amodu was sacked after the Super Eagles had a poor performance in the African Cup of Nations last month in Angola. There is speculation that Amodu would still be in the mix as he is currently involved with the national team in an evaluator role.
Although there is mention that Hoddle is the top candidate for the job there are other candidates being considered. There is still an outside chance for former Sweden coach Lars Lagerback to take the job as he is reportedly schedule to also land in Lagos sometime on Thursday.
