Interview with Betinho

Posted by Juan Arango 2.05.2010

Nova High star Robert De Sousa broke out this season as the Titans reached familiar territory once again.

The Broward youngster was the team's leading scorer in the county this past season as Nova went undefeated in the regular season.

He has been one of the best youth players in the state of Florida these past few years, and we had a chance to talk to him.

Juan : Your reactions regarding the past season at Nova High?

Roberto De Sousa: We had a great season going 19-0 and unfortunately we were unlucky in Districts and lost 1-0 but nevertheless, as a team i think we were one of the best teams in South Florida.

Juan :Tell me about yourself as a player.

RDS: I've always loved playing. I look forward to practices and games and i think all my dedication to the sport is one of the reasons I feel so comfortable playing and playing well like I have been.

JA:How do you see yourself now as compared to the beginning of the season?

RDS:Well in the beginning of the season I noticed I used to get mad
unneccessarily but then after my suspension for the fight I learned to cool down and focus on playing my game and just scoring goals and doing my thing.

JA:Tell me about your role on the field at Nova?

RDS: For Nova I start as a forward so my role is basically to score. Its always been what I like to do so hopefully things will continue to go smoothly and I can continue doing my job.

JA:Which one was your best goal of the season?

RDS:Personally I think my best goal was against Hollywood Hills when we won 2-1. It was the first 2 minutes of the game and I shot it from a little more then 20 yards out and it went upper 90. But the fact that it was such an important and high intensity game that it made the goal that much better.

JA: Tell me a bit about your experience playing over at Santos?

RDS:Playing with the kids at Santos was probably one of my best soccer experiences because it gave me a kind or reality check about how much talent is really out there. Some of the 1993/94 boys there are the best players I've ever played with and played against.

JA:How has your dad´s experience as a former soccer player helped you develop on the pitch?

RDS:My dad is probably the biggest and best influence when it comes to soccer. Whenever we practice or play I can never beat him lol its good because I know he's 100 times more knowledgable then I am when it comes to those things. I make sure to listen carefully to the things he says.

JA: Which player do you like to emulate the most?

RDS:A lot of what I try to do is from what I see in a lot of different players but the two I try to emulate the most have to be Romario's goal scoring and Messi's dribbling.

JA:As a Santos fan from birth, what do you think about Robinho coming back? Where do you see Santos this year?

RDS: I think Robinho coming back will be great for Santos because he will forever be a hero in the city so its great. Especially since Santos hasn't been doing so hot right now but only time will tell i guess. Hopefully Santos will be able to get on track in the Campeonato Brasileiro 2010 but we'll see.

JA:What are your future goals in and off the pitch?

RDS:My future goals on the field ae hopefully get a scholarship to play in college and then try and play professional for the MLS or somewhere out of the country. Off the pitch i'm focused on school and trying to keep my grades up so i have a better chance of getting into a good school.

JA:How will you be focusing this off-season as your senior year looms in the horizon?

RDS: I'm just gonna train harder then ever with my club team, Weston Academy, so when high school season rolls around ill be ready to put the numbers up and help Nova get to where we left off this year.
