After days of speculation between Glenn Hoddle or Sven-Göran Eriksson, Nigeria decided that they would go with Lars Lagerback.
The Nigerian FA announced on Friday that they hired the former Swedish national team coach. Lagerback signed a five-month contract to become the replacement of Shaidu Amobu leading the Super Eagles into the World Cup in June.
Earlier in the week, the speculation from local media was that both Bruno Metsu and Glenn Hoddle was signed, sealed and delivered as the coach of the Nigerians, but negotiations with the former Senegal and England coaches respectively.
Lagerback is familiar with one team in Nigeria's group as he was Tommy Soderberg's assistant in the 2002 World Cup when Sweden played Argentina to a 1-1 draw, eliminating the prohibited favorites in that tournament.
Nigeria are scheduled to play Argentina in Johannesburg on June 12th.
