GERMAN BUNDESLIGA – ROUND 29 REVIEW
Bayern Munich and Schalke 04 went head-to-head in Gelsenkirchen for the chance to grab the top spot of the Bundesliga. The Bavarian giants lost their first place standing last week, but got it back with a tremendous win on the road against one of their biggest rivals for the German Bundesliga crown. Ribery and Muller scored Bayern’s both goals in a span of a minute to get the victory for the visitors.
Bayer Leverkusen’s dreams of winning the league title took a major blow after dropping another match, this time to Eintracht Frankfurt, although Stefan Kiesling scored a brace to stay atop the Golden Boot race in Germany. Borussia Dortmund, Werder Bremen, Hamburg, and Stuttgart continue to fight for a spot in one of Europe’s major club competitions next season.
As for the teams involved in the relegation battle, Hertha Berlin knocked off Cologne on the road and now they are 4 points from safety with 5 rounds left to play. Freiburg and Hannover 96 are the other two teams in the dreaded drop zone, but remain within reach of Nurnberg and Bochum who are both struggling to stay on the right side of the drop zone.
