Three rounds remain in the Bundesliga season and the race for the championship is locked between Bayern Munich and Schalke 04. The Bavarian giants picked up an easy win over Hannover 96 after crushing the visitors 7-0. Hannover 96 finds itself in the drop zone, but just one point from safety. Bayern Munich will face a tough week as they travel to Lyon for the first leg semifinal match in UEFA Champions League play, followed by a visit to Borussia Monchengladbach next weekend.
Schalke 04, meanwhile, defeated ‘Gladbach 3-1 and continue to hold on to hope as they are only two points behind Bayern Munich in the standings. Schalke will host a Hertha Berlin side that seems doomed to be relegated unless they can pull off a late season miracle to save themselves.
Bayer Leverkusen seemed to have been knocked out of the title race for good (despite maintaining mathematical chances) after losing on the road to Stuttgart. The only consolation prizes for Leverkusen is that Stefan Kiesling is still in the running to finish as Germany’s top goal scorer (19 goals, one behind Edin Dzeko) while also looking to qualify to next season’s Europa League or UEFA Champions League.
