The Uruguayan side earns the Mad About Fútbol Team Of The Week award for their massive upset & elimintaion of Argentine & South American powerhouse Boca Juniors in the Round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores. Defensor beat Boca 1-0 at La Bombonera to advance to the quarters by a 3-2 aggregate. Diego de Souza's goal in the 27th minute gave Uruguay's I Viola the win an event the Argentine media are calling El Bombonerazo. The victory sent the Uruguayan side to their 2nd ever quarterfinal appearance as they look to take down another Argentine side when they face Estudiantes La Plata.

Congratulations to the 2008-09 UEFA Cup Champions. Shakhtar's 2-1 win over Germany's Werder Bremen was the 1st European trophy ever won by a Ukranian side. Shakhtar's win had a distinct Brazilian flavor with both goals coming from Brazilian players. The game winner came 7 minutes in extra time from ex-Atletico Paranaense midfielder Jádson. Shakhtar will now face Barcelona in the UEFA Super Cup.

3rd place = VfL Wolfsburg-Fußball GmbH (GER)

The team from Lower Saxony in Germany won its 1st ever Bundesliga title the way you are supposed to by winning and by winning BIG. They didn't leave the trophy to chance as they waxed beaten UEFA Cup finalists Werder Bremen 5-1 at home to make history. Die Wölfe were the top scoring team in the league scoring 80 goals in 34 matches. Wolfsburg were led by goalscoring assassins of Brazilian Grafite & and Bosnian Edin Džeko. Grafite led the Bundesliga with 28 goals and Džeko finished 2nd with 26, setting up the high scoring duo was another Bosnian, midfield set up man Zvjezdan Misimović. Hopefully they won't be sold so that we can see them play together in the Champions League next season.
