Santos lost their 1st game of the season to Botafogo in a Rio-São Paulo encounter. Botafogo scored twice in 3 minutes late in the 2nd half to take the points in a 2-0 home win at Engenhão. Santos' 1st loss was Botafogo's 1st win of the season as the Rio side moved out of the relegation zone.

Palmeiras moved into 3rd place with their 3-0 home win against Cruzeiro. Young goal scoring sensation Keirrison scored once in each half to give Verdão its 2nd win in a row and extend its unbeaten streak to 4 matches. Keirrison's double gives him 4 goals on the season tying him with 6 others for top Brasileirão goal scorer.

The eye-popping result of the weekend occurred in the state of Paraná where Coritiba destroyed Flamengo 5-0. Flamengo defender Wellinton started the avalanche of goals in the 8th minute when he scored an own goal trying clear a centering pass. Bruno Batata scored his 1st goals of the season in the 46th and 62nd minute. The result was Coritiba's first win of the 2009 Brasileirão & their first shutout of the season.
