The first victory of the 2010 South Africa FIFA World Cup belongs to South Korea. The Tigers of Asia dominated Greece in Nelson Mandela Stadium by a score of 2-0. The South Koreans jumped to an early 1-0 lead when defender Lee Jung-Soo stood in front of goal and easily volleyed a free kick into the back of the net.

The lead almost extended to 2-0 in the 28th minute when Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-Sung played a brilliant through ball to forward Park Chu-Young behind the defense. Chu-Young had a breakaway with a defender on his back but could not finish as Greek keeper, Alexandros Tzorvas did enough to keep the ball out of the net.

The 2nd half saw much of the same with South Korea controlling the game with superior skill and athleticism. The 2nd goal came in the 52nd minute when Park Ji-Sung recovered possession in the Greek defensive half after poor ball handling from Greek defender Loukas Vyntra. Ji-Sung raced toward the goal staving off two defenders and scoring on a quick closing Tzorvas to make the score 2-0.

The Greeks fought a bit to avoid the shutout with their best chance coming in the 82nd minute when forward Theofanis Gekas' had the ball in the box and blasted a shot but was well saved by Korean keeper Jung Sung-Ryong.

South Korea's next match is against Argentina in Johannesburg-Soccer City on the 17th while Greece's next match is against Nigeria on the 17th at Mangaung/Bloemfontein in Free State Stadium.
