Posted by Juan Arango 3.07.2010

This is a new weekly segment that we will have on Simply Futbol as we will post the big stories on Sunday morning as fans are either waking up with a nice brew of coffee to start the day or just getting home from a long night of partying.

Peru

Sports daily El Bocon had on its cover players from Universitario coming off the bus despite being suspended by the Sporting Association of Peruvian Football (ADFP).

The aforementioned entity confirmed on Friday that the reigning Peruvian champs would be suspended after their jersey carried the logo of an unauthorized sponsor instead of LanPeru.

In addition to their suspension, Universitario would have to forfeit their upcoming match against Total Chalaco, but the club showed up to play on Saturday.

The club already mentioned that they were willing to go to court in order to be reinstated even though this action goes against FIFA rules.

Brazil

Carioca daily O Globo talked about the rout offered by Flamengo against Resende on Saturday. Adriano scored and was key in the rubronegro win in Copa do Brasil action.

Argentina

Sports daily Olé had Gabriel Hauche on the cover of its morning paper. The former Argentinos Juniors man scored the eventual game-winner for Racing Club in their 2-1 win over Boca

Juniors at La Bombonera Saturday night.

La Academia managed to win in La Boca for the first time in over eight years and they were able to get out of relegation zone for the first time in over a year.

Chile

While the entire nation's eyes were focused on the telethon that was raising money for the victims of the devastating earthquake and tsunami, the Chilean federation decided to play one tournament. Although this news was not worthy of the front page for obvious reasons, it did streamline the tournament somewhat.

Daily La Tercera mentions that the Chilean Football Federation (ANFP) decided to scrap the remainder of the the Clausura tournament in order to have several teams be able to recover from the consequences of last week's 8.8 richter scale earthquake.

This was made in an effort to try to allow certain clubs that were affected directly by the earthquake to be able to host matches.

The changes already put in place will not affect the Chilean national team's World Cup preparations.

Uruguay

Daily El País talked about Nacional's win over Wanderers in the Uruguayan league and they continue to keep pace with Peñarol atop the standings in the tournament, but they also are on top in the annual table.

Paraguay

The Guaraní press criticize president Lugo but hail Wolfsburg midfielder Jonathan Santana in the reigning German champs win over Bochum. Daily La Nación talks about the Paraguayan international's game winner on Saturday. Also a heated interview with coach Pedro Troglio and the criticism he has been receiving at Cerro Porteño.

There is also a feature on the progress of Salvador Cabañas and how his career is virtually over.

Colombia

FIFA inspectors find themselves in Colombia to see how the preparations are going for the upcoming u-20 World Cup scheduled to be held in the South American country. If people think South Africa is not prepared, Colombia hasn't even started yet.

Also Santa Fe come up with a huge win as do Cali. Reigning champs Medellín salvaged a point at home in controversial fashion against Junior.
