Maradona's Time To Coach

Posted by Juan Arango 6.15.2010

There are certain factors that coach Diego Maradona will have to contend with as he has to do something that his administration has rarely has been known for- keeping an even keel.

He knows that the team had its share of shortcomings against a listless Nigeria side; but he knows that he was able to do enough to get the three points.

Diego Maradona has not shown his hand in the past 24 hours but his clues have given us plenty of ideas as to how the Albiceleste will lineup against South Korea on Thursday.

Maradona has really put out the fact that Juan Sebastián Verón will not be present in the starting XI because he is suffering from a calf injury. The most likely replacement will be Maxi Rodríguez. The Liverpool man will give the team a different pace on the right compared to what Verón did against Nigeria.

Another big question mark is going to be the reinsertion of Jonás Gutiérrez into the lineup or the possibility of even using Nicolás Burdisso. Maradona's call up is showing its shortcomings after not bringing in a legitimate solution to the problem he will have on the right with Ji-Sung Park causing mischief on that end.

The big issue is that Maradona will have to consider the fact that the South Koreans will opt to use a 4-3-2-1 in order to go and neutralize the movement of Lio Messi in the middle of the pitch.

Reds coach Huh Jung-Moo knows that the first step to get points from the Albiceleste is trying to neutralize the Barcelona star's movement and pace as he is coming towards goal on the run.

Another player will be Ángel Di María who will most likely be on the left once again after a sad showing against Nigeria. The Benfica man was rarely seen on offense and his inability to ruffle Super Eagle feathers made it harder for Argentina to pressure up front. There was a great need for him up front, although it seemed like Lio Messi was a human highlight reel.
