2010 Brasileirão Wrap - Rodada 11

Posted by Anonymous 7.27.2010

The biggest news out of Brazilian football was the announcement of Corinthians coach, Mano Menezes as the new leader of the Selecao, one of the top 5 most pressure packed coaching jobs on the planet. Corinthians celebrated his appointment with a 3-1 victory over Guarani at home at Estádio Pacaembu. Timão bounced back from its 1st loss of the season with two goals from Bruno César to regain first place in the Brasileirão table.

Fluminense 1-1 draw on the road against Rio rivals Botafogo dropped Tricolor Carioca back down to 2nd place. The result extends Flu's unbeaten streak to 8 matches while extending Botafogo's winless streak to 8 matches as well.

The two Brazilian teams that will face each other in the Copa Libertadores semifinal entered that crucial match with opposite results. Internacional beat defending Brasileirão champion, Flamengo 1-0 with a 4th minute goal from young star forward Taison. The win was O Colorado Gaucho's 4th consecutive victory and moved them up to 4th place in the standings.

Inter's Copa Lib semifinal opponents São Paulo lost 1-0 to state rivals Santos at the Vila Belmiro when São Paulo defender Renato Silva scored an own goal when he knocked the ball into his own net off a Santos free kick. The win broke Santos' 3 game losing streak while Tricolor Paulista's have lost 3 of their last 4 matches and are only out of the relegation zone due to goal differential.
