Menezes releases his list for US friendly

Posted by Juan Arango 7.26.2010

It took very little time for coach Mano Menezes to get to work.   Just 24 hours after his final match as Corinthians skipper, Menezes already has a list of players ready to face the Unites States on August 10th at the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

Menezes took with him a very balanced side that includes youth and experience.  These were players that look to be making a big splash internationally with the Brazilian national team as Menezes looks to start to gather his base of players for the upcoming Copa America and ultimately the World Cup.  Only four players that took part in the past World Cup were called up- Dani Alves, Thiago Silva, Ramires, and Robinho.   There will also be youngsters such as Manchester United player Rafael in the back.  Real Madrid left back Marcelo will also be getting his first taste of the Canarinha after establishing himself in that position with the Spanish giants.

Also the Santos phenoms on the attack were called up once again.  Neymar and Ganso highlight a phenomenal list of young offensive threats called up by Menezes.  Neymar is currently O Peixe new star, but Henrique Ganso is the marquee name in the midfield.  Teammates Robinho and Andre are part of a list that is capped off by striker Diego Tardelli and AC Milan man Alexandre Pato.  The former Sao Paulo man has been one of the few bright spots for Vanderlei Luxemburgo as Atletico Mineiro are looking to fight relegation.

Ronaldinho was not called up by Menezes, but this does serve as an opportunity to find a replacement in Hoffenheim midfielder Carlos Eduardo.

There will also be a new search for goalkeepers at the domestic level as they look forward to seeing who will give Inter keeper Julio Cesar a run for his money.  Based on initial speculation Avaí goalkeeper Renan is the probable starter against the US.  The goalkeeper has been one of the big surprises of the Brasileirao as the team based out of Florianopolis is currently fighting for a spot in the upcoming Copa Libertadores.
