La Liga recap

Posted by Juan Arango 3.08.2010

You can call it the FIFA Virus or whatever you want but Barca stumble and Real Madrid continue to hit their stride. What seemed impossible a couple of weeks ago became true as La Liga is an even race to the end now.

Los Merengues came back from a two-goal deficit to remain unbeaten at the Santiago Bernabéu and snatch first place from Barca on goal differential. Madrid will have the chance to expand on their lead as they head to Valladolid.

Barcelona meanwhile stumbled at Almería as Lionel Messi carried the Blaugrana to a 2-2 draw at the Estadio Juegos Mediterraneos. The road does not get easier for Barca
as they host Valencia at the Nou Camp.

Meanwhile Andrés Guardado came back from his match against New Zealand to help Deportivo earn a 3-1 win against Tenerife.

The biggest surprise of the weekend was Nestor Gorosito's Xerez side defeating Málaga on the road 4-2.

Deportivo 3-1 Tenerife
Almería 2-2 Barcelona
Real Madrid 3-2 Sevilla
Málaga 2-4 Xerez
Espanyol 0-0 Villarreal
Mallorca 3-0 Sporting
Athletic 2-0 Valladolid
Zaragoza 1-1 Atlético
Osasuna 0-0 Getafe
Valencia 0-0 Racing
